Back in July 2024, I shared two posts on the idea of creating a Parks & Recreation Advisory Board. You can still find those original posts in the archive if you’d like a deeper dive. Below is the brief six-minute presentation I created at the time that explains the concept in more detail:
I continue to believe this board would be the best way to maintain and improve our parks and recreation programs, not only by giving residents a stronger voice, but also because it will:
- Leverage the talents of our community – tapping into the creativity, skills, and passion of residents.
- Address parks and recreation as a whole – ensuring a comprehensive approach instead of piecemeal fixes.
- Build community – by bringing people together to shape the future of the spaces we all share.
In the end, I believe this approach will lead to more creative, exciting solutions that strengthen both our parks and our sense of community. Which is why I drafted the ordinance below as a starting point for discussion.
